Speaker  : Rick Strahl
Topic  : ASP .NET Architecture: How the core ASP .NET engine work
Did you ever want to know how ASP.NET hooks up to IIS? How the plumbing connects the ISAPI interface to the ASP.NET runtime? Want to better understand how the HttpRuntime gets bootstrapped and how the HttpApplication pipeline gets kick started and how events flow through the HttpApplication pipeline? Then this session is for you as we'll look the architecture of ASP.Net along with a number of useful tips and tricks that you can use for building and debugging your ASP.Net applications more efficiently. We'll look at overall architecture, how requests flow from the IIS Web Server, through ISAPI to the ASP.Net runtime into HTTP Modules and Handlers, and finally into high-level handlers like the WebForm Page handler event chain and Web Services Pipeline. Focus of this session is on the low level aspects on the ASP.NET runtime, with examples that demonstrate the bootstrapping of ASP.Net, threading models, how Application Domains are used, how configuration files are applied and how all of this relates to the applications you write today. If the geek in you wants to know 'How the black box works' this session is for you.

Creating Customizable User Interfaces with ASP.NET 2.0 Web Parts

Some of the most sophisticated Web sites on the Internet today implement portal pages which enable users to select their own custom arrangement of content modules. Inside corporate networks, Windows SharePoint Services has further popularized this type of personalization capability. Now, you will be able to add a dynamic, modular, customizable portal interface to your own ASP.NET 2.0 Web site with the new Web Parts framework. In this session, we’ll examine how this Web Parts architecture is implemented as a set of controls which contain, catalog, edit and connect together the Web parts. You will also learn how to persist user customizations like changing the page layout or the Web part properties, via the provider-based personalization service. Along the way, we’ll create several Web Parts from the standard ASP.NET server controls, our own user controls and even custom Web Parts.

Date  : Tuesday October 4th 2005
Speaker : Scott Stansfield
Topic : Ajax Now, Atlas Tomorrow

Most web applications work by triggering an HTTP request to a web server, doing some work, then returning another HTML page. AJAX hides the jerky round-trip from the user through a clever stiching of Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (and a little DOM and XMLHttpRequest too). With a judicious application of these latent, but powerful techniques, you have the ability to enable a better user experience in your next web app. You’re probably already using it today through Google Suggest, MSN Virtual Earth or A9.com. A future release from the ASP.NET team called “Atlas” will make it simple to weave Ajax into your applications, but there’s no reason to wait.

Speaker Bio Scott Stanfield is the founder and CEO of Vertigo Software, Inc., a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner for e-Business Solutions. Scott is a proud member of the MSDN Regional Director community, covering Silicon Valley, and participates in the .NET Partner Advisory Council. His company has built the Windows DNA "Rosetta Stone" sample application Fitch & Mather Stocks 2000 and the .NET sample IBuySpy.com. He is a frequent speaker at Microsoft shows like at TechEd, PDC, DevDays and VBITs. Topic Areas Web Applications (ASP.NET and the .NET Framework) Architectural and Performance comparison with the J2EE platform.
