Description:

Build a WordPress Blog and Photo Gallery Site in 60 Minutes!

WebMatrix makes it easy to create, customize, and publish your website. It’s an all-inclusive, simple web development tool from Microsoft that includes everything you need for website development. You can start with open source web applications, built-in web templates, or your own code. This talk will briefly introduce you to WebMatrix before diving into demos of how WebMatrix makes it easy for two potential users to create, customize, and publish a WordPress blog and a photo gallery site. You will learn how to use Razor syntax, set up membership, leverage useful helpers, and other tips and tricks to get these two different types of sites (one from the Web Gallery, one from a template) up and running.  I will also go into extensibility of WebMatrix and talk about what’s coming from Microsoft.  Get a head start by downloading WebMatrix here: http://bit.ly/alicerp

Bio:

Alice grew up in Louisiana and came out to sunny California after high school to attend Stanford University, where she received her B.S. in Electrical Engineering/Software. She then moved across the bay to get her M.S. degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research/ Management of Technology through the Haas School of Business and College of Engineering at the University of California at Berkeley. While at Stanford and Berkeley, she was heavily involved in various dance groups and enjoyed organizing networking, mentoring, and community outreach events for the Society of Women Engineers.

In her free time, she enjoys traveling, discovering new places to eat, rock climbing, learning new tricks in aerial silk and trapeze, and sharing Louisiana and Chinese culture with people. As a Microsoft Developer Evangelist in southern California, she focuses on WebMatrix and supports developers in client, web, cloud, and mobile initiatives.  You can find out more at http://bit.ly/alicerp
